Elon Musk's AI company xAI will release its first AI model on Saturday - but only to a select group for now.
Elon Musk had announced ambitious goals for his new AI company xAI: to create a super-intelligent AI system that would solve complex scientific and mathematical problems and contribute to our understanding of the world.
According to a new post by Musk on X (formerly Twitter), xAI's first AI model will be made available to a "select group" on Saturday. "In some important respects, it is the best that currently exists," Musk said.

xAI wants to find out "what's really going on"
According to Musk, xAI focuses on deep scientific questions such as dark matter, gravity, and the Fermi paradox, among others, and aims to understand "the true nature of the universe". The company has assembled a team of experts from leading AI research companies such as OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, and DeepMind.
Musk and his team believe that super-intelligent AI is realistic by 2029 and will help society understand "what the hell is really going on". In addition to its scientific focus, xAI will also compete with OpenAI and provide offerings for consumers and businesses.
Is TruthGPT coming on Saturday?
It is not known what specific models the company is working on, but Musk has repeatedly spoken of the TruthGPT AI system, which aims for "maximum truth" and is intended to compete with AI models such as GPT-4. Musk had criticized the development of OpenAI, particularly "too woke" or left-leaning AI chatbots.
Elon Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015, but stepped down from the board in 2018, in part to avoid conflicts of interest with his AI research at Tesla. Since then, Musk has founded xAI as an independent company, with X Holdings Corp. as its parent company. Musk also changed Twitter's name to X Corp. and registered the company in Nevada.
