Remember the Tom Cruise deepfake guy on TikTok? Someone is now doing the same for Margot Robbie. And Fake Tom Cruise is also still active.
The Australian actress is known for roles in movies like "Legend of Tarzan", "Suicide Squad" and Quentin Tarantino's "Once upon in Hollywood". She also starred in the excellent film biography "I, Tonya" about former figure skater Tonya Harding
So far, Robbie has not been active on TikTok, but that is changing … in a way.
Deepfake Margot deceives the TikTok community
For about two weeks, "Unreal Margot Robbie" has been active on TikTok. In that time, the account's operators have uploaded six videos: Robbie dancing her way out of a sweater and into an evening gown, or having fun at the expense of her husband Tom Ackerley stuffing her purse - typical TikTok routines.
The videos look realistic, which is echoed in the comments: Many TikTok users point out that it is not the original actress (the account name alone indicates this). But they are amazed at the quality of the deception. The word deepfake is used only occasionally (or at least once in a while depending on the perspective). Often a real doppelganger is considered.
However, many users comment on the content of the video itself, not a possible fake, and therefore probably confuse Fake Robbie with the original. The suspicion is that deepfake technology is being used here - also because there is already a "prominent" role model.
What happened to Deepfake Tom Cruise?
About a year ago, Deepfake Tom Cruise aka the actor Miles Fisher also poached clicks and likes on TikTok with a fake face. Among other things, he used deepfake technology to imitate Tom Cruise so successfully that he fooled Justin Bieber and lured the real Tom Cruise onto TikTok.
Surprisingly, he lets his deepfake counterpart do his thing: Fisher and his visual effects specialist Chris Umé are still on TikTok and YouTube. As a young Tom Cruise, Fisher even met the real, older Tom Cruise at the Oscars and recently shot a fake couple video with Paris Hilton. The Deepfake account now boasts a whopping 3.6 million subscribers.
According to Umé, weeks of work go into each of the Deepfakes to achieve the quality presented. The Deepfake actor Miles Fisher also looks a lot like Tom Cruise anyway and could pass for Cruise's doppelganger even without an AI fake face. Two reasons why there have probably not been many imitators so far.
It is not yet known who is behind Fake Margot Robbie. But the account is already on the road to success: after about two weeks, it boasts more than 30 million views and 300,000 followers.
