Andrej Karpathy, a leading AI researcher, has announced his departure from OpenAI. In a statement, Karpathy clarified that his decision was not the result of any problems or "drama" at OpenAI, and praised the "really strong team" and a "very exciting roadmap." Karpathy, known for his expertise in AI and his work as head of AI at Tesla, plans to focus on personal projects. His work at OpenAI was rumored to include the development of a personal AI assistant, similar to the concept of "JARVIS" from Iron Man, and he is looking into AI-driven operating systems. Karpathy was already at OpenAI in 2016, before returning to OpenAI about a year ago after working at Tesla in a leadership role developing AI systems from 2017 to 2022.
