Meta Platforms plans to release AI chatbots with distinct personalities on its social media apps, with the first of these agents expected to be announced at the Meta Connect conference this week, the WSJ reports.

These generative AI bots are being developed to increase engagement, serve more ads, and appeal to younger audiences amid TikTok's surge in popularity. Meta is also working on a product that allows celebrities and creators to use their own AI chatbots to interact with fans. We've seen similar reports before, with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg foreshadowing that in the future, users will use many chatbots instead of just one.
