AWS and Mistral AI announced a deeper collaboration in generative AI. Customers can now access Mistral AI's Mistral Large, the European AI startup's flagship LLM, through Amazon Bedrock. Mistral AI will also use AWS hardware, such as AWS Trainium and AWS Inferentia, to train and deploy future foundation models on Amazon Bedrock, which is now available in the AWS Europe region (Paris). Amazon, Microsoft, and Google are currently competing for leadership in cloud AI. A European AI model from a European startup on servers in Europe is an interesting proposition for, you guessed it, European companies. But with Mistral already working with Microsoft and Amazon, Jeff's former online bookstore has just leveled the playing field.

Generative AI search engine Perplexity aims to serve ads in the future. Perplexity uses large language models combined with web search to answer user questions based on web sources, including videos, images, and data from partners like Yelp. Perplexity also links sources in the answers and suggests related questions that users might ask. It is for these related questions, which currently account for 40 percent of search queries, that the company plans to introduce native advertising by allowing brands to influence those questions, Chief Business Officer Dmitry Shevelenko told Adweek. The launch will take place in the coming quarters. However, with only ten million users per month, Perplexity still has a long way to go to become relevant to (larger) advertisers. The startup recently raised $74 million in Series B funding from investors including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is no longer the owner of the company's affiliated venture capital fund. Altman's temporary legal control of the seed fund was for the sole purpose of getting the fund up and running as quickly as possible, OpenAI told Axios. Management has been transferred to Ian Hathaway, who has been co-managing the fund since 2021, according to new filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The fund was launched at the end of 2021 with $175 million, with OpenAI partner Microsoft among the investors. It now has more than $325 million in gross assets, according to SEC filings. Hathaway led the fund's accelerator program and invested in companies including Harvey, Cursor, Speak and Ambience Healthcare, according to OpenAI.
