Update, February 11, 2023:

OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus is now available internationally for $20 plus tax, providing subscribers with more and faster performance. The free version will still be available. As in the U.S., international subscribers will receive more reliable access, faster responses, and are expected to receive priority access to new features and enhancements.

Original announcement from February 01, 2023:

For $20 per month, ChatGPT users get more and faster performance. The subscription is currently only available in the USA.

After some rumors in January, OpenAI makes it official: ChatGPT Plus is real, costs $20 per month, and will be rolled out by invitation to US customers on the waiting list in the coming weeks.

Users of ChatGPT Plus will get:

A larger rollout and support for more countries is planned "soon," according to OpenAI. A ChatGPT API will also be released soon, for which you can sign up for a waiting list here.

The rumored $42 per month Pro offers that appeared sporadically in January were apparently price tests - or fakes. The following Twitter video shows the available Plus interface in action for the first test users, which generates answers much faster than the free version.

Free ChatGPT will continue to be available

The launch of the paid service does not mean the end of free ChatGPT, on the contrary: "By offering this subscription pricing, we will be able to help support free access availability to as many people as possible," OpenAI writes.

OpenAI is also "actively exploring options for lower-cost" and business plans, as well as data packages, to improve availability for "more availability".

According to OpenAI, millions of people have provided feedback on ChatGPT, which has helped improve its limitations. Since its launch, there have been several updates and the first professional use cases have emerged, such as writing and editing content, brainstorming, assisting with programming, and learning new topics.

Recently, OpenAI announced a billion dollar deal with Microsoft to develop and deploy its AI technologies. With the "AI Text Classifier", OpenAI also provides a tool that can help identify AI texts as such. It does not matter whether the texts were generated with an OpenAI language model or another AI language system.
