Through the official API, Stable Diffusion can now be more easily integrated into existing and new apps. This could lead to the creation of an app ecosystem around Stable Diffusion.
Stability AI, the startup behind Stable Diffusion, released a first version of the REST API as a developer preview. The API gives developers direct access to the output of Stable Diffusion. This makes it easier to embed the generative image AI into existing apps and also allows it to be used more flexibly for new services. For GPT-3 and DALL-E 2, the release of the API was the starting point for the emergence of an app ecosystem.
According to Stability AI, it is an alpha version that will be adapted based on user feedback. A DreamStudio API key is required for authentication. Documentation for the REST API is here.
Stability AI enters partnership with AWS
Stability AI also announced a partnership with AWS Cloud: Future open-source AI models will be trained using SageMaker, Amazon's cloud training platform for machine learning.
According to AWS, Stability AI can train models using thousands of GPU or AWS Trainium chips, reducing training time and cost by 58 percent. The time and cost savings figure refers to training the GPT NeoX language model together with EleutherAI.
AWS and Stability AI also intend to enable students, researchers, startups, and enterprises worldwide to leverage open source tools and models.
