UNESCO is weighing in on AI ethics with its own recommendations and tools, including the Readiness Assessment Methodology. It's an ex-ante assessment for governments, companies, and other organizations to design, develop, deploy, and procure AI systems ethically and in accordance with human rights and fundamental freedoms.

OpenAI could take several steps to mitigate some of the identified risks, such as fully disclosing the dataset used to train GPT-4 and ensuring that ChatGPT provides references to support any factual claims it makes in its responses.

Microsoft has updated its Bing chatbot to enable voice mode on Edge for desktop, allowing users to ask questions using their voice. Cortana on Windows is dead, and Microsoft is now directing users to Bing and its AI-powered Copilot for Windows 11 instead, as more capable replacements. The Bing chatbot currently supports English, Japanese, French, German, and Mandarin, with more languages on the way.

According to new research from Robust Intelligence, Nvidia's NeMo framework, designed to make chatbots more secure, could be manipulated to bypass guardrails using prompt injection attacks.

In one test scenario, the researchers instructed the Nvidia system to swap the letter "I" for "J," causing the system to expose personally identifiable information. Nvidia says it has since fixed one of the causes of the problem, but Robust Intelligence advises customers to avoid the software product. Stability AI, the startup behind Stable Diffusion, has launched Uncrop, an AI-powered outpainting tool that allows users to change the dimensions of images by creating expanded backgrounds. Built on Stability AI's text-to-image model, Stable Diffusion XL, Uncrop reconstructs images and adjusts visual canvases similar to generative fill in Photoshop. The tool is available for free in the Clipdrop web application.

AI startup Cohere has raised $270 million in funding from investors including Nvidia, Oracle, and Salesforce. Cohere specializes in developing generative AI for businesses that securely handles sensitive company data, offering Large Language Models (LLMs) that can be tailored to customer needs. Founded by former members of Google's Brain Team, the company's language model is built on the Transformer architecture. Cohere now has offices in Toronto, Palo Alto, San Francisco, and London.

According to a Morgan Stanley survey of 2,000 people in April, 19 percent rely on ChatGPT and 9 percent use Google Bard, mostly to learn about a new topic.

With only a few months on the market, that's an impressive number, but Morgan Stanley researchers say it's "only" 20 percent. Your call. Most people who haven't used chatbots are unlikely to use them in the next six months, according to the study.

The majority of users still start their online shopping and travel research with Google Search, YouTube, or Bard. Morgan Stanley highlighted Google's potential to maintain its lead with personalized, AI-generated search results, especially in travel. The company is currently rolling out its SGE to early users.

Marketing GPT uses natural language prompts and AI-driven segment intelligence to improve the creation, delivery and analysis of personalized campaigns. Commerce GPT translates product descriptions for different audiences, with a focus on improving personalized shopping experiences. Available in summer 2023, these products reflect Salesforce's increased focus on putting AI at the core of its services.
