Apple continues to negotiate with OpenAI and Google about generative AI on the iPhone. According to insiders who spoke to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the iPhone maker has resumed talks with OpenAI about using the startup's technology for new features in the upcoming iOS 18. The two companies have begun discussing the terms of a potential agreement and the integration of OpenAI features. Apple is also in talks with Google about licensing the Gemini chatbot. A final decision on partners has yet to be made. It is possible that Apple will ultimately reach agreements with both companies or another company. At its WWDC developer conference, Apple is expected to unveil new AI software and services that will be seamlessly integrated into devices and offer better privacy protection. By outsourcing generative AI capabilities to partners, Apple could accelerate its push into chatbots and avoid some risks.
