It seems like Google turned on gemini.google.com too early, and the next, no longer "Bard" changelog has leaked: It confirms the renaming of Bard to Gemini on February 7, 2024, and adds that Google is launching with a new, cleaner chat interface.

The previously leaked text in the code below is also included in the changelog, but there is no mention of a price for Gemini Advanced.

Android users will get a Gemini app that could replace Google Assistant, but it's NOT coming to the UK, Switzerland, and "European Economic Area countries and associated territories." iOS users will have to make do with Gemini in the Google app. Gemini is also coming to Canada.

Google might launch its ChatGPT Plus competitor "Gemini Advanced" next week

Google might release its ChatGPT Plus competitor "Gemini Advanced" on February 7th. This suggests a name change for the Bard chatbot, after Google announced "Bard Advanced" at the end of last year.

The Gemini Advanced chatbot will be powered by the eponymous Gemini model in the Ultra 1.0 release, according to code snippets posted on Reddit. Google says the new chatbot is "far more capable at highly complex tasks like coding, logical reasoning, following nuanced instructions, and creative collaboration," thanks to the Ultra model.

The company promises regular updates, such as improved multimodal capabilities, coding features, and detailed data analysis. "We're just getting started, and Gemini Advanced will continue to get even better." The model is optimized for English, but can also respond in other languages.

Gemini Advanced gives you access to our most capable AI model, Ultra 1.0. If you want to be one of the first to access Google latest AI advancements as they become available, this is for you. With our Ultra 1.0 model, Gemini Advanced is far more capable at highly complex tasks like coding, logical reasoning, following nuanced instructions, and creative collaboration.

Plus, Gemini Advanced will continue to expand with new and exclusive features in the coming months, including expanded multi-modal capabilities, even better coding features, as well as the ability to upload and more deeply analyze files, documents, data, and more.

Gemini Advanced is a paid plan available in over countries and territories. It is available and optimized only for English with our Ultra 1.0 model, but can respond to queries in other languages that Gemini is available in.

Google tries to catch up with ChatGPT

Gemini Advanced will most likely be a paid service, similar to ChatGPT Plus. A few days ago, Google added an image generator to Bard that works similarly to DALL-E 3 in ChatGPT, and it also reached GPT-4 levels in the free version of Bard with a new Gemini Pro "scale" model.

Recommendation

The question is whether Ultra can beat GPT-4, and by how much, and if and how fast OpenAI can counter it.

Like ChatGPT, Google Bard is a conversational chatbot. A unique feature of Bard is that it integrates with various Google services, so it can perform tasks such as finding appointments in Gmail, getting real-time flight and hotel information, and providing directions in Google Maps.

Bard can also access the web to pull up up-to-date information and use it for answers. In addition to these features, Bard can understand images and verify statements made during a chat by performing an Internet search.
