Artificial Intelligence is a key technology that can help us solve major societal challenges such as climate change, energy supply, healthcare, education or logistics. AI can solve specific problems more effectively by supporting us in decision-making, automating solutions and thus scaling them, or discovering completely new solutions. But the use of AI also poses new risks, for example when it comes to surveillance or questions of social justice.

Sky News recently tested its first AI news reporter, developed with Norwegian YouTuber and coder Kris Fagerlie, using ChatGPT and other AI software.

The AI reporter pitched story ideas, researched topics, identified experts, and even generated images to produce a news article and TV report. Despite its capabilities, the AI made critical errors that required human intervention for ethical and editorial standards. Sky News concludes that while AI can replace some tasks, the imagination and rigor of real journalists will keep their jobs safe for now.

The GPT-4 API is now available to all paying customers, with OpenAI retiring older models in the Completions API in six months and encouraging users to adopt the Chat Completions API.

GPT-3.5 Turbo, DALL-E, and Whisper APIs are also now generally available, with fine-tuning for GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 Turbo expected later this year. Applications using stable model names for base GPT-3 models will automatically be upgraded to newer models on January 4, 2024. Priority access to GPT-3.5 Turbo and GPT-4 fine-tuning will be granted to users who previously fine-tuned older models.

Mercedes-Benz is testing ChatGPT in its MO360 intelligent production system to improve production processes, real-time data analysis, and optimize quality management. The company is integrating ChatGPT through Microsoft's Azure OpenAI Service, leveraging the enterprise capabilities of the cloud and AI platform.

ChatGPT uses customer experience and quality data from production and development to quickly identify and analyze potential issues, increasing the efficiency of quality management and process optimization at Mercedes-Benz for employees without prior programming knowledge. Upon successful completion of the pilot, the tool will be implemented across Mercedes-Benz's global production network.

"There will be no programmers in five years," believes Emad Mostaque, founder and CEO of Stability AI. In an interview, Mostaque talked about the dominant role that generative AI systems like ChatGPT are already playing in programming. Forty-one percent of the code on GitHub is already AI-generated, he said.

Mostaque is committed to open source with his company and sees open AI as a "much better business model" than closed systems.
