Universities are recognizing that AI literacy is now critical for every graduate, not just those in computer science.

This new priority is leading top US schools, including UCLA and the University of Maryland, to appoint their first Chief AI Officers. The aim is to equip all students with foundational AI skills, reflecting the sense that understanding AI is becoming as essential as traditional core subjects.

Higher education leaders see a particular responsibility in this area, given their historic role in launching companies like Facebook, Google, and Dell. As AI expertise quickly becomes a basic requirement in the tough job market for new graduates, universities are under growing pressure to ensure students are prepared.

Generative AI has already changed the rules of the game in the search market, according to Judge Amit Mehta's ruling in the Google antitrust case. Mehta pointed out that "companies already are in a better position, both financially and technologically, to compete with Google than any traditional search company has been in decades (except perhaps Microsoft)." That shift helped Google avoid the toughest penalties in court, such as forcing the company to sell Chrome or a blanket prohibition of paid deals with Apple and Mozilla - both key demands the US Department of Justice had pushed for. Now, Google is moving forward with its core product, rolling out AI-powered agentic search worldwide.

WordPress showed off its experimental AI tool Telex at WordCamp US 2025 in Portland. Telex is designed to generate custom Gutenberg blocks for WordPress sites using simple text prompts. CEO Matt Mullenweg demonstrated how a user could create a basic marketing animation with just a few instructions. The tool is available at telex.automattic.ai and provides results as a .zip file for easy installation. Initial tests suggest Telex still has bugs to work out. Mullenweg described Telex as a prototype and part of WordPress's broader AI roadmap. He also introduced a lightweight browser assistant for answering WordPress questions, and referenced Perplexity's AI browser Comet, which could one day allow users to control WordPress directly.

Dolby Vision 2 will use AI to fine-tune TV picture quality in real time, taking both the content and the viewing environment into account.

The "Content Intelligence" system blends scene analysis, environmental sensing, and machine learning to adjust the image on the fly. Features like "Precision Black" enhance dark scenes, while "Light Sense" adapts the picture to the room's lighting.

Hisense will be the first to feature this AI-driven technology in its RGB Mini LED TVs. The MediaTek Pentonic 800 is the first processor with Dolby Vision 2 AI built in.
