OpenAI has appointed Sarah Friar as Chief Financial Officer and Kevin Weil as Chief Product Officer. Friar previously served as CEO of Nextdoor and CFO of Square. She also serves on the boards of Walmart and Consensys. Weil most recently served as president of product and business at Planet Labs. Before that, he co-founded the Libra cryptocurrency at Facebook and served as vice president of product at Instagram and Twitter. In her new role, Friar will help OpenAI maintain its research while meeting the needs of its growing customer base. Weil will lead a product team focused on turning research insights into products and services that help consumers, developers, and businesses. CEO Sam Altman says that both will "enable OpenAI to scale our operations."

In the video, Karpathy shows all the necessary steps from building the GPT-2 network to optimization and training to generating the first text.

Humane, the AI pin startup, is in talks with HP about a possible sale or licensing deal, according to three sources who spoke to the New York Times. This is happening despite harsh criticism following the launch of Humane's AI pin. Imran Chaudhri, a co-founder of Humane, said that within 48 hours of launching the AI pin, more than 1,000 companies from sectors like retail, healthcare, and education showed interest in working with Humane or making software for the device. Humane has also made deals with mobile carriers in South Korea and Japan. Since the AI pin's launch, Humane has made the software better. They have added OpenAI's GPT-4 and made changes so the battery lasts longer and the device responds faster. However, there is a problem with the charger case because a battery supplier gave Humane parts that can catch fire.

Their chatbots, Copilot and Gemini, won't confirm that Joe Biden beat Donald Trump in the 2020 U.S. election. They dodge the question, "Who won the 2020 U.S. presidential election?" and won't provide results for other U.S. or global elections. Google said that Gemini avoids all election results worldwide. Microsoft plans to send some election questions to search as it improves its AI for 2024. Microsoft's AI has already spread false information about elections. X's Grok chatbot also shares wild fake news, even turning viral jokes into news.

AI music generator Udio has added a number of new features, including the ability to upload your own audio files as song starters for users of the Standard and Pro plans. This and the "udio-32 model" can be used to create songs up to 15 minutes long, with the uploaded audio files setting the tempo and mood. There is also a new model for two-minute songs, advanced control options such as setting the song start and generation speed, and features for tracking users and displaying credit usage. A new text field allows users to edit song lyrics after generation. Paid subscribers no longer need to give Udio credit when using generated tracks publicly.

According to media reports, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have agreed to share antitrust investigations into the AI industry. According to the agreement, the DOJ will lead the investigation into chipmaker Nvidia, while the FTC will investigate the conduct of Microsoft and OpenAI. Microsoft has a $13 billion stake in OpenAI and owns 49 percent of a for-profit subsidiary. The FTC is also reportedly investigating Microsoft's $650 million deal with AI startup Inflection AI. A formal investigation could begin soon. The EU is also investigating Microsoft's relationship with OpenAI.
